What is Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity?

The aim of this blog is to converge some of the most important information about Electro-hypersensitivity (EHS) and share useful resources to those who wish to expand their knowledge on this topic.

Electromagnetic-hypersensitivity is similar to a food allergy, for example, a nut allergy where the body reacts negatively to nuts. With electromagnetic-hypersensitivity, the body reacts negatively to electromagnetic frequencies.

“As humans we are bio-electric and bio-magnetic beings, not just bio-chemical. We operate electromagnetically and respond to all forms of subtle energy fields.”

The body’s reaction to electromagnetic frequencies is believed to be the result from continued exposure to EMF radiations. Not everyone is extremely sensitive to EMF radiation, at least not enough to feel its constant effects and resulting symptoms like that of electromagnetic hypersensitive (EHS).

The symptoms can include “headache, fatigue, stress, sleep disturbances, skin prickling, burning sensations and rashes, pain and ache in muscles and many other health problems.” In more extreme cases, the effects of EHS can be debilitating, preventing the sufferer from living a normal life, working, or even going outside.

Unfortunately, concerns about electromagnetic fields (EMF) are still branded “pseudoscientific conspiracy theories” and the end result is that the majority of people are unaware of the danger of EMF exposure. We don’t often think about how much EMF radiation we are exposed to on a daily basis and the impact it has on us all.

Here below are some example of the types of radiation that we are constantly exposed to:

Radio frequencies: cordless phones, smart phones, smart meters, 5G generation, Bluetooth devices

Magnetic fields: chargers for electronics, high voltage power lines, electrical panels, electrical faulty wiring

Electric fields: household wiring, cords and chargers, lamps and lighting

Dirty electricity: chargers for electronics, dimmer switches, smart televisions

Furthermore, the accumulation of radiation from wireless devices has been growing since the 1980’s. Nowadays, the level of these radiations is above a million times the natural level and constantly increasing, with the result that every single cell in our body is exposed to these radiations; scientific research proved that they have a biological effect.

EMFs impact our immune system. The role of our immune system is to guard our body and actively look for foreign microbes, for example bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi. When our immune system does not recognise an agent, it will launch an attack in an attempt to neutralize the foreign elements. By being overexposed to EMF, our immune system can lose its ability to recognise the foreign agent it is meant to keep us safe from. In the long term this can lead to other severe immune problems.

While the body of scientific data supporting EHS continues to grow (albeit quite slowly), very few doctors, organizations and governments actually recognize it as a real condition.

Currently, Austria is the only country in the world with formal, written guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of EHS and in Sweden, EHS is formally recognized as a functional impairment (not a disease)

According to a campaign launched to regulate the exposure to electromagnetic frequencies [1] “an estimated 800,000 people in the UK are EHS”

Below are some suggestion that can be implemented in order to reduce the risks of overexposure:

  • Stop carrying mobile phones in your pockets
  • Switch off your Wi-Fi at night, you have heard me saying this quite a few times. When we sleep, we are in an unconscious state and radiations impact us at least 150 times more.
  • Children are still developing and are more at risk, particularly the skull.
  • If you use Wi-Fi at home, turn off the data
  • Never use laptops, tablets on your legs or while in bed on your belly.. It would radiate in the reproductive areas
  • Do not use your tablet, telephone in bed. It will stimulate your brain and disrupt your sleep
  • Where you can use your pc plugged in
  • Use “Air tube headsets” to reduce your radiation exposure
  • Grounding – walk barefoot on grass at least twice a day for 5 minutes.
